Strop Paste is used to maintain leather or canvas strops and to support straight razor edge refinement. The pastes are colour-coded for different stropping and maintenance jobs.

Choosing the Paste Colour

Start with the job rather than the colour of the razor. Yellow (156) is listed for strop maintenance; white (159) is the option for the fabric side. Green (157) and red (158) are the honing choices, with green described by G&F as having the stronger effect and red the medium effect.

Maintenance paste and honing paste do different jobs. If you are caring for the strop itself, do not select green or red simply because you want a cleaner leather surface. If you are choosing a honing paste, check the strop maker's instructions for the surface you plan to use. These pastes are for the strop, not for applying to the razor during shaving.
